Gluten-free, Paleo, or Vegan Thanksgiving Delivered to Your Doorstep!!

static1.squarespaceA few months ago I had the opportunity to try Chef Ryan Abitz’s paleo delivery service, Urban Gourmet. It was most excellent and I recommend it all the time. 100% GF (celiac dedicated commercial kitchen,) DF and accommodating of other allergies to boot. I thought just for fun I’d email him to see if he was doing a menu for the holidays and BAM! Yes indeed. Thanksgiving, handled. His prices are ridiculously reasonable and I can tell you that he’s yet to have me try anything that I didn’t adore.
Wait, did I tell you he’s delivering said Thanksgiving meals? As in to your house?
unnamed-2When I asked him about the details he also let me know that even for Thanksgiving he can accommodate your allergy or special dietary needs and requests.

MENU HERE

-Delivery is free to Portland and surrounding areas (minimum 4 people for free delivery)
-A la Carte items and Whole Birds (free range sourced from Gresham farm) available as well

Enjoy!

PS Full disclosure Ryan sometimes offers me discounts on food because I shout for him and send him new clients. I’d do it no matter what though. Because, you know, shouting about gluten-free yum is part of my job.

Nourish Plant Based Cuisine: Local PDX Delivery!

dr samantha gluten free portlandAbout a month ago I was contacted by Erin Eberle to try her gluten-free vegan food delivery service. Uh, of course I will!

Her company is called Nourish and I’m happy to say the food was beyond delish. I am a protein type of girl so I actually added a protein portion to the vegan dishes (except for the veggie burgers) and that made it all better for me. The menu she sent over included the following:

  • Moroccan chickpea stew with Apple-cilantro chutney – gluten, soy, but and sugar free (reheat on stovetop and eat up)
  • Super green salad with walnut-cilantro dressing – gluten, soy, sugar free
  • Raw walnut-veggie burger with fennel dill pickles, fermented tomato salsa, romaine wraps – gluten, soy, sugar free
  • Raw coconut-lemon bars – gluten,soy,sugar and nut free
My favorite, much to my surprise, were the lemon bars, as I’m not much of a sweets person but they were very lightly sweetened and the lemon was balanced perfectly. I was able to ask Erin a few things I was curious about, you’ll find her answers below.

1. What is your training as a chef?
My formal training is in psychology and art history. I have lived and worked in multiple culinary meccas including San Francisco, miami, NYC and Vancouver BC. My first true eye opening experience in the world of healthy, organic, plant based healing foods was working as a sous chef at Gorilla Food in Vancouver, BC. The owner, Aaron Ash, was and is a source of inspiration on how to live life and do business in a sustainable, honest, artful way. I believe my background in counseling psychology, art history, organic farming and my desire to live and work a life I truly believe in led me to create Nourish. I guess you could say my culinary training has been from each person and place that has led me to Portland and this amazing opportunity to feed people creative, healthy, organic, foods.

2. How is your service good not just for vegans but for everyone?
Nourish is plant based. While a majority of what we do is vegan, we are amenable to different dietary needs. that being said, we believe a plant based diet is healthier for all humans as well as the animals and environment. I believe that the quality of food we serve is sure to please even meat eaters. We aim to create well balanced, delicious, creative meals filled with textures, flavors and nutrition. What better way to eat a little healthier and still have amazing, organic, seasonal food… nourish aims to please any palate 🙂

Overall I’d say the food is fabulous, the portions are a little small for my taste but priced reasonably given that she’s giving each and every piece of food her full attention and the quality is top notch for all of the ingredients.
Tell her we sent you.
