Blog for Food 2010

Blog for FoodWe’re joining a long list of our fellow Pacific Northwest blogs in a month-long drive to raise funds for the Oregon Food Bank. As such, we’ll be flying the “Blog for Food” picture on the top left corner from February 15 until March 15. You can click on it any time to donate funds to this important organization. Click here to go to the Oregon Food Bank’s donation page. The Oregon Food Bank also has a great volunteer program which makes it snap to help their cause in other ways.

note: when donating, add the note “blog for food” in the “In Honor of” section on the Food Bank donation page, so that we can track our totals.

If you are a blogger and want to join the Blog for Food drive, contact Tami at the Pacific Northwest Cheese Project.

News Bites

Blog for Food Wrap-Up
In the month of February we joined the Blog for Food fundraiser organized by Tami at the Pacific Northwest Cheese Project and Kathleen at GoodStuffNW. The results:

Our official Blog for Food total for February 2009 is $2,283. $1 = 5 lbs of food, so that means we’ve helped buy over 11,000 pounds of food for hungry people…..pretty impressive.”

That’s awesome. Many thanks to all of you who took a moment to donate to the Oregon Food Bank.

Gluten Free Labeling
In other news, Gluten-Free NYC gives the run-down on the FDA call for input on Gluten-Free Labeling.

Well that’s it for today. Happy Saturday!

Gluten-Free News Bites

Hi everybody I’m blogging on my lunch break because I have a couple of quick news items and two reminders:

Reminder #1: We’re in Blog for Food for the Oregon Food Bank week 2. Please take a moment to donate to the Oregon Food Bank.  To be part of the official Blog For Food tally, please enter “Blog For Food” in the tribute section on the OFB donation page. Nancy Rommelmann has decided to take the campaign up a notch and is stripping for donations.

Reminder #2: If you were planning to reserve a Valentines Day Cake for your sweetie from New Cascadia Traditional Bakery, the cut-off is today.

US News has an article about the gluten-free diet and celiac disease and how some are calling eating gluten-free a fad.

This is a little old, but Allergic Girl posted a link to a New York Times article that tries to shed some light on the accuracy of allergy tests.

Last, Celiac Chicks posted some links to information on which drugs are gluten-free. I remember early on when I was switching over to being gluten-free I found that one of the vitamins I was taking daily contained wheat.

That’s it. Happy Wednesday!

Blog for Food: A Benefit for Oregon Food Bank

Click here to donate to the Oregon Food Bank. This month we are joining other area blogs to help raise money for the Oregon Food Bank, which is the hub of a network of 915 hunger-relief agencies through Oregon and Clark County, Washington, during a time of extreme need.

According to the Oregon Food Bank Network’s report, requests for emergency food are skyrocketing to record levels throughout Oregon and Clark County, Washington. With need up as much as 43 percent in some areas, Rachel Bristol, executive director and CEO of Oregon Food Bank, said, “Layoffs, foreclosures and other economic disruptions are taking a terrible toll on our neighbors.” The campaign will run from Sunday, Feb. 1, through Saturday, Feb. 28, and hopes to raise at least $5,000.

To participate, click the “Blog for Food” logo on the top of the left column or here: Blog for Food. This will connect you to the Oregon Food bank online donation page. To be part of the official Blog For Food tally, please enter “Blog For Food” in the tribute section on the OFB donation page.
